nicholas merryweather - baritone
Nicholas Merryweather read German at University College London before training at the Hochschule für Musik, Cologne and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London. He has received the Glyndebourne Wessex Award and the English Touring Opera Chris Ball Bursary.
Nicholas’ opera engagements have included as Lalchand and Rambashi in The Firework-maker’s Daughter at the Linbury Theatre, Covent Garden; Elviro Xerxes, Winter and Hymen The Fairy Queen, Mr Fox in Tobias Picker’s The Fantastic Mr Fox, Marco Gianni Schicchi, Starveling A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Blazes in Peter Maxwell Davies’ The Lighthouse, Pallante Agrippina, Edoardo Assedio di Calais and Guglielmo Cosi fan Tutte for English Touring Opera; the title roles of Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Giovanni, Papageno Die Zauberflöte and Argante Rinaldo for Longborough Festival Opera; Villotto La Vera Costanza, Figaro in Paisiello’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Figaro in Portugal’s Il Matrimonio di Figaro, Bardolfo in Salieri’s Falstaff, Plistene in Salieri La grotta di Tronfonio and Cassandro La Finta Semplice all for Bampton Classical Opera.
On the concert platform Nicholas has performed Messiah with the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and with the Hallé Orchestra / Robert Howarth, Bach Christmas Oratorio with the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra / Nicholas Kraemer, Christus in the St John Passion with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra / Michael Rosewell as well as Christus in the St Matthew Passion with the Royal Northern Sinfonia / Thomas Zehetmair and the title part in Félcien David’s Moïse au Sinaï with the Sofia Philharmonic / Amaury du Closel.
His plans include and Mr Gedge Albert Herring at the Buxton Festival The King in Violeta Cruz La Princesse Légère for the Opéra Comique and Opéra de Lille.
