simon bejer - designer
Australian-born opera and theatre designer Simon Bejer read Fine Arts at the University of Melbourne and completed his studies at Motley Theatre Design in London. He is a founder member of the puppet opera company Third Hand.
Simon has designed sets and costumes for The Cunning Little Vixen and The Little Green Swallow for British Youth Opera; The Magic Flute with Charles Court Opera at the Iford Festival, Arianna in Creta for the London Handel Festival; El Gato con Botas at the Linbury Theatre, Covent Garden, The Sandman at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Patience with Charles Court Opera as well sets for Riders to the Sea and Savitri with BYO and Costumes for Toujours après de Moi for Opera Erratica. He has worked with directors Stuart Barker, Rodula Gaitanou, Selinda Cadell, Pedro Ribeiro, Patrick Eakin Young and John Savournin.
Simon’s theatre work includes Jonah and Otto at Park Theatre; Crossing the line Hampstead Theatre Downstairs, Isilwanyana Esoyikekayo at the Garrick Theatre; When the terror has ended the victims will dance at Platform Theatre as well as the immersive film events Road Movies at the Filling Stationand Saturday Night Fever for Everyman Cinemas at the Old Vic Tunnels.
His 16-17 season’s projects include sets and costumes for Kiki’s Delivery Service directed by Kate Hewitt at the Southwark Playhouse; Krešimir Dolenčić’s production of The Love for Three Oranges at the Croatian National Opera, Zagreb and John Savournin’s production of The Magic Flute at The King’s Head Theatre, Islington.
